Topic#6. Biggest Lesson This Semester

I cannot believe this semester is almost done! During this semester, I had so hard time. Unlikely last semester, this semester has been boring to me because my friends who were with me during last semester moved to another school. That is why I could not concentrate on my study and school life. Therefore, I cannot help feeling homesick. I missed my family and my friends so much, even though I live with my uncle’s family here and eat Korean food every day. I really wanted to go back to Korea and even I used to cry sometimes. However, my family and friends kept contacting me and encouraging me. I obtained courage to live and study here again from them and finally I could overcome the homesickness. Through this semester, though I did not get a high improvement on my study, I got tough but priceless experiences. I think my acquisition through this experience cannot be obtained easily. Overcoming homesickness is my biggest lesson this semester!

Topic #5. My Favorite Place

My favorite place is a park near my home in Korea. When I was young, I used to go to the park with my friends for riding bicycle. And also I went there with my family bringing some delicious food. At that time, there was so popular. Many people enjoyed playing with family or friends there. Now, there has lost their popularity. The shops that had lent bicycles and skates disappeared. I was so disappointed about that. However, I still go there. I really like to go there. Whenever I go there, I feel relaxed. I can think about nothing hanging around with my friends. There is a reservoir. When I see the reservoir, I can feel fresh air. My city is trying to make the park recover its popularity. One year ago, a museum was built in the park. And camping spaces will be built. I am looking forward to seeing many people enjoying there. When I go back to my country, I will go the park with my family!

Topic #4. Major

My major is international business. I chose the major because I was not interested in any other majors. Moreover, I was not really good at math and also at writing. However, I like meeting people and talk with them. That is why I chose international business. I think business majors do not need the person who is really good at math or writing. Actually, I had chosen business as my major for the first time, but I thought international business is more prospective that just business. Now, I am a senior in my university. My major needs people who have good foreign language skills. Therefore, I am learning English here and I will learn Chinese when I go back to my country. I am not interested in a Bachelor's degree. All I am interested in now is going back to my country, keeping studying English and Chinese, and getting a good job.

Topic #3. Obstacles

I have never had any serious obstacles that I overcome in my life, like disability or discrimination. However, I have trouble in learning other languages now. I need to have good English skills and also Chinese for my major.  Actually, I came here to learn English last August. Now, it is almost 10 months that I have lived here. However, my English is still bad. It is so sad. Many people say if you want to learn other language, be confident and aggressive in speaking. However, I am a quite person. That’s why learning other languages is so hard to me. Also, the pronunciations are so difficult, especially Chinese. Sometimes when I talk with some people in here, I cannot hear the words I had already knew because I thought the sounds of words wrongly. My English has not improved that much since I came here, but I think I overcome fears in meeting foreigners and talking to them.  During staying here, I have felt that I have a lot of problems in my English. Therefore, I am still overcoming the problems and will do it when I go back to Korea after this semester.

Topic #2. Spring Break Adventures

I went to San Diego during this spring break. Actually, I had a plan to go to Yosemite national park. However, some of my friends could not go, so we canceled the plan. I was so disappointed because I was really looking forward to going there. I needed to set a new plan for my spring break. I could not miss this chance to enjoy this break, so my friend and I decided to go to San Diego for 2 days. We made a schedule for San Diego and went there very next day. We went to La jolla beach, San Diego zoo, Balboa park, Old town, Coronado island, and downtown San Diego during 2 days. Everywhere I went in San Diego was beautiful. Especially, I really liked San Diego zoo. I like to go to zoo. The zoo was really huge, so I could not visit every animal. I had a lot of fun there. There were lots of animal that I cannot see in my country. It was very interesting to see them. Moreover, La jolla beach was so beautiful. I think the beach is the best beach I has seen ever. Also, we visit some museums in Balboa park. Whenever I visit some places in San Diego, I felt that San Diego is so calm and peaceful. In addition, the weather was so good. Even though my original plan for this spring break was canceled, I could enjoy the spring break and relax in San Diego.

Topic #1. Spring Break!

I have a plan to go to Yosemite National Park with my friends during this spring break. I heard that Yosemite park is so beautiful and peaceful from my friends and family, and also I saw many pictures of Yosemite park on some books. Whenever I see the pictures, I really wanted to go there. I like mountain and camping. Actually, my friends and I will be camping in Yosemite because renting the cabin is so expensive there. I am a little worried about the weather because Yosemite is colder than here, but I am so excited about going there. I am planning to stay there three days. And also if I have some more time, I would like to go to San Diego. I went there before, but I only visited Sea World. I want to visit la jolla beach in San Diego especially by train. I am going to go back to my country this summer after this semester, so this spring break is the last time to enjoy in the U.S. before I leave. I hope I can enjoy this spring break happily and you guys, too! Enjoy your break J

Topic #5: I Can't Live Without My Diary!

My the most indispensable item is my diaries. They are not expensive item but very valuable item to me. I write down everything happened on my diary every day. The contents of my diary are not quite long or special, yet I write anything so that I remember them later. When I was 14 years old, I received a diary as my birth day gift from a boy whom I really liked. It is first time to receive diary as gift. Since then, I have written diaries and my favorite gift has been diaries. I get a new one per year. Therefore, now I am writing my 15th diary. At the first time I write it, I wrote a few comments. However, now I write more details about my schedules, thinking, and also feeling. Sometimes, I attach some pictures and tickets that I used. That is why my diaries are not just diary. They are my memory. Whenever I look and read them I wrote before, I can feel that time and it makes me relax and happy. Although there are times when I feel like I am addicted writing dairy every day, I can not stop it and I will not stop it. If I lose my diaries, I might be in sorrow. Probably, I can not live without my diaries.

Topic #4 : Which Language?

If I could be instantly fluent in another language, the language will be Chinese. I want to learn Chinese and have to do because I am majoring in International Business in my university in Korea, so foreign language skills are very important in my major. That is why I came here and have been learning English. These days English became a necessary language and also it is not enough to get a job. Many jobs need foreign language skills. Thus, I need another language skill for my future. Actually, I have been learning Chinese in my university because the university needed me to choose one language between Japanese and Chinese for my major and to learn it. Therefore I chose Chinese and I have taken Chinese classes. I think China is getting stronger and counts for a lot of portion in the world, so I think now Chinese becomes a more important and prospective language for trade than other languages to me. Thus I have to keep learning Chinese when I go back to Korea. Although Chinese is hard to learn, especially the pronunciation, it is always so fun to learn other languages for me. I hope my English becomes better and my Chinese, too.

The Most Meaningful Holiday!

There are many holidays in my home country, Korea. We have New year’s day, Children’s day, Memorial day, Independence day, Buddha day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They have each important meaning. My favorite holidays and the most meaningful holidays are New year’s day and Thanksgiving of them. There are some reasons why I like New year’s day and Thanksgiving.
In Korea, many people have memorial ceremony for their ancestors on New year’s day and Thanksgiving traditionally. It makes some people, especially women, hard and get stressed that preparing the ceremony on the holidays because the ceremony is need certain food and a lot of caring. On the other hand, my family does not prepare the ceremony on the holidays, for we believe in God. That is why we can enjoy the meaning of the holidays without getting stressed.
On the holidays, all of my families gather to celebrate the holidays without ceremony. We always discuss what we eat on holidays before the day; then, we bring the foods from each home and eat them on the holiday playing traditional games.  I can feel the family love and happy on the holidays, so the holidays are most meaningful for me.

Topic #3. Money, Power, or Fame?

I think fame is least important to me. I have never thought that I need fame, but I need power and money sometimes. Actually, I always need money to live. That is why I think power and money are more important than fame to live. Especially, it is sad but true that money is most important thing between them. Fame can be need for some people who want to be famous, but not for me. I think fame is a just want or greed. If I get fame, it will be great, but I do not want to get it.
I do not know exactly what power means. I think power is important but not that much. Sadly, there are some people who ignore other people who do not have power. The people who do not have power are harder to do or solve something important to them than strong people. Thus, power can be related to money. We are living in the world that strong people can make money easier than weak people.
As everyone knows, money is most important. People can not live without money. Of course, it does not mean money is the best thing in the world. I think it is most important between fame and power. There are many things that are more important than money in the world such as love, family, and friends.  Thus, I want a lot of money, some power, and a little fame. I will always try to get them.

Topic #2 : Only one I cannot eat!

I like eating so much. As I told before, one of the ways that make me relax and happy is eating. I can eat more than the girls who are same age with me. I know it is not good thing because I got 10 pounds after I came here. Although, it makes me sad and remind me to go on a diet, I can forgive eating. I love eating, so I can eat everything that I know except only one food.
I cannot eat chicken neck. My favorite food is chicken. I love every food that made by chicken. But, I cannot eat chicken neck even I don't like see it. I heard there are some countries where they don't eat chicken neck. However, in Korea, we eat cooked chicken neck. Actually, my oldest sister loves eating chicken neck. When I see her eating chicken neck, I feel like it is disgusting. I don't know why. I guess it is related to that I don't like birds. When I see cooked chicken neck, I imagine birds.
I'm not picky at any other foods. I might be changed. I want to know the good taste of chicken neck and to eat like my sister. Does anybody eat chicken neck???

Topic #1. Who Are You?

I want to share about myself. My name is Jiseon, Kim. I am from South Korea. Now I live in Diamond Bar with my uncle's family. I had come here last march just for traveling and meeting my relatives and I had a plan to go to Canada last summer. But my uncle and aunt recommended me to go to school for learning English instead of going to Canada for traveling. So, my plan was totally changed. I went back to Korea for visa and came again here last August to learn English. I will go back to Korea this summer and keep studying in my university.
My favorite things are eating and shopping. When I get stressed, I find a famous restaurant and go there to eat. Eating always makes me relax and happy. Also, I love to go shopping. That is one reason I like America. America is good place to go shopping. Actually, I always go shopping with my mom and sisters. So, whenever I go shopping in here, I miss my mom and sisters. I hope the day I go shopping with them will come soon!
